On The Verge

I could be the closest I've ever been to a nervous breakdown this morning.  I couldn't sleep last night, my mind racing with last minute thoughts- did I get everything done that I needed to before the big move?  I finally got up at 6:45 and just got moving.  I put away most of what I could recall from my nights mental to-do list.

Last night Hubby and I cleaned out and tried to organize the garage in such a manner that when the movers pack it it won't take us 10 years to figure it out.  My house looks like a tornado came through it, all of the furniture is in the middle of each room.  Of all days, I got called in for an appointment that I absolutely could not get out of this morning so my visiting teaching companion is coming to sit with the movers while I'm gone.  When I get back home I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself.  There will be no TV, no furniture, no books or magazines.  All I will have is the internet on my phone and/or laptop...how long will I be able to entertain myself on the internet while sitting on the floor?!  Hubby has to work a full day today so it's just me until he gets home or until Bab gets here to help me clean this place.  My Bab is coming to clean this place like no other.  Hopefully it'll be so sparkly that it'll sell quickly!

All of the preliminary inspections have been completed for the relocation company.  Now we just wait to hear what, if anything, needs to be fixed on the home.  We will then do repairs and list the house as soon as we get them completed.  Oh, and it's raining today...yay!

Climbing the Ladder

This week my Hubby was asked to take a position as a lead engineer.  I am so happy for him, he has worked really hard and I think he deserves it.  Of course, this means working longer hours and I'm sure there will be more stress but we are both grateful that he has been given the opportunity.

We got our new HVAC unit installed this past Thursday...hallelujah!  It's hot where we live and being without it for 4 days makes me appreciate it more.  Of course, nobody should feel bad for us because we had a window unit while we waited our turn for a new one.  We tried to find the humor while being limited to our bedroom where the window unit was located.  We laughed at ourselves one night when we had dinner spread out all over our bed as we sat on our small couch in our master bedroom to eat.  I wore my hair curly all week because there was no way in heck I was bringing out a hot tool to tame the tiger!

The countertop that will finally complete the kitchen remodel is being made as we speak.  We hope that it will be delivered this week so we can wrap this up.  I was really impressed with the way Lowe's handled the situation, they have been really good to us.

We went to the shooting range with a group of friends on Thursday.  One of the people we went with had a grouping that looked like a paw print, what are the odds?!  We went to the dirt track on Friday night with Hubby's work friends.  Hubby used to go when he was a kid but I had never been to such a thing.  It was much more fun than I anticipated and much less dirty than I originally thought.  I will admit to reading a People magazine while the cars were qualifying...that was lame!  Saturday was spent with our Horse Country Shell and her parents that were in town for a visit. We kind of claim her parents as our own, they're pretty adorable!  We went to church today...I bet nobody saw that coming!  I had a cub scout meeting directly after church.  (the leadership position that I hold at church has me overseeing the cub scouts as part of my responsibilities)  We came home and grilled out and have been resting up for the week ahead!

***It was brought to my attention that trying to comment on my blog posts was next to impossible.  I have had issues commenting on others blogs recently and I don't know what the deal is.  I changed some settings around so comment away!  If you are still having issues please let me know.  Thanks!

Three

Well,"they" always say that trials come in threes. We all remember the leaky skylight from last week. And when we returned home on Sunday our air went out. We are getting a completely new unit installed tomorrow! Then this evening Hubby went to Lowe's to pick up our special order countertop to finally complete the kitchen remodel and...the finishing details were wrong AND apparently we ordered the wrong color.

Now I realize that these are not major problems but I do find it humorous that somedays it seems like nothing goes right. But, there's always tomorrow!

Waterproofing

It poured rain Thursday all through the night.  We went to Hubby's manager's wedding at an adorable Victorian home here in Horse Country.  We all got seated and it started storming again!  We came home once again to a leaking skylight...not a settling feeling.  We saw from the weather reports that it would clear up by Saturday morning.  Hubby got on the roof Saturday morning and assessed the situation.  Evidently someone tried to fix it before and used untreated wood, the rotting wood seemed to be the source of the problem so we were off to Lowe's to get supplies.  By late afternoon all was well in the world because our home was waterproof again and Hubby was off the roof.  A word to the wise, tar does not come off easily.  His clothes were trashed from this project and I had to scrub and clip and nip to get most of the tar off of his hands/nails.  I am so thankful to have a husband that is so handy.  He really is amazing!

Necessity is the mother of all invention- while he was on the roof we used a rope and shopping bag to get tools and other supplies up and down.
It's amazing how things work out- the rope that we used was purchased and never used before this day...who knows why we bought it!  While at Lowe's we couldn't find the right type of screws for the project, I looked down and there was a box of the exact screws we had been looking for completely out of place and just for us.  Our neighbors told us when we moved in that if we ever needed a ladder that we could borrow one, we were able to get just what we needed from them Saturday morning.  Not to mention the fact that we came home Thursday night, that was not the plan.  Had we not come home, I'm sure that we would have had some type of water damage on our kitchen floors.  Too many blessings to count!
